What a year, 2017, was for me! So much going on and my blogs got pushed to the side.

The greatest news was that my son got married. There was so much to prepare and this young couple took it upon themselves to do most of the work. I thank them for that. It sure was a lesson to them on what goes into the preparations. Of course, my husband and I were there to help in all aspects but only when asked. It went off without a hitch! Or at least, nothing anyone noticed. Beautiful ceremony, beautiful couple. Now, they have started their new adventure together. There are so many great things for them to experience. Love them both and wishing them a lifetime of happiness.

I started out the year getting my husband to finally agree that it was time for us to downsize. We never really had a huge home but it was enough for us. The yard work was getting tedious as my husband loves to golf as much as he can and I work most weekends. I have to admit, I was tired of climbing stairs. We started by de-cluttering and what a task that became. We cleaned it up and made sure the home was in tip top shape to get on the market. We were very fortunate that we sold very quickly (such was the market last year before March 2017). Then came the real work. De-cluttering is not as easy as everyone
thinks it is. We had been in that home for almost 30 years. All our memories were there and boxes and boxes of 'stuff' that we were hanging on to for our kids. We started one room at a time and donated/sold/threw out what we couldn't sell and donate. The house got emptier by the week and when we finally found our future home we were able to start to bring what we were going to keep to the new place. Yes, we found a place to live before the old house closed.

Not having moved in such a long time I was more concerned about my husband adapting to the change. Yes, we are in a condo. Beautiful place. We have everything on one floor and all the rooms that we need. Size is perfect. Lots of light. Beautiful views. Balcony to enjoy the summer breezes. All amenities. My windows get cleaned by someone else. I just have to do the inside. I don't have to shovel the driveway. My car is not cold in the winter mornings.

It didn't take long, but hubby is now adapted to this lifestyle. We both have said: "We should have done this a few years ago". I have many clients, and friends, that I can now explain to them how easy this life can be. Enjoy your life. Once the kids have left, it is time for us to think a little bit of ourselves.

This past winter as I drove around and watched older homeowners trying to shovel their driveways, I often wonder why they don't think about moving. Yes, I still get out and help a few in my travels. Also, having gone through this process, I can truly appreciate the anxiety many of you feel. Let me help you alleviate some of the worry. It's the best experience that I can offer to Buyers and Sellers.

Here I am in my home office (yes, my condo has an office space for me) and look out the window as I write this. I can't believe it will be a year in another month that I sold the house. And in April it will be a year that we are in our new home.

There were a few very sad moments in my life, but everyone has those and I coped with them. This is a happy blog. No one can take the memories of 2017 away from me. Life goes on!

Until next time!
It's that time of year once again. Summer 2017, such as it was, is coming to an end and we can get back to our regular routines that we put on the back burner while we enjoy summer vacations and backyard BBQ's, and patio parties. As I drive around I see High School grads walking around smiling. Their future is right in front of them and the doors are starting to open up. I often wonder where are they going?

These young adults worked so hard for four/five years for this special moment. We, as parents, must now let them fly. We've instilled about as much knowledge about the world that we could. Now, it's up to them. If we could, we would like to have you closer to home so that if there is something we would help with, we don't have far to go. But if they're too close, we won't let them 'figure' it out on their own. If you decide to go further away from home for work or studies, open your wings and fly. Know that you are loved and thought of every minute of every day.

These young people are the future. They are the ones that are willing to take chances. They are the ones that will be heads of companies and leaders of the world. As I look at them, I wonder - when did I get older.

I remember my daughter and son finishing elementary school. Then four years of secondary just flew by. It was like yesterday when I dropped my daughter off for first year university. The dorm room was 'cozy'. She had the basic necessities. She needed no more. She would tell me about the Friday nite movie nights - she was the only one in her quad with a small tv. Someone would bring the popcorn. Someone would bring the 'refreshments'. What a great group of co-ed roomies she had. This is something I am now passing on to those who are getting ready to leave their nest. My son stayed closer to home and commuted to University.

So, CONGRATULATIONS, to all who have passed through the hallowed halls of their post-secondary institutions. May I wish all of you the strength to face what is yet to come! Know that you have the support of your families to continue your journey. You can depend on the friendships that you have developed in these few short years.
subsequently demolished in 1954 and the site was remediated by Ontario Hydro. Following this remediation, the river bed was straightened, widened and relocated to its present location closer to the north-west valley bank. This provided a large flat area which was used as a sanitary landfill between the years of 1961 and 1965.

Erindale Park is the largest park in the City (222.1 acres or 89.88 hectares) and features 5 picnic facility areas, 5 barbecues, 6 comfort stations, 1 playground equipment area, a lookout on the old dam and a toboggan hill. This park also offers walking trails, fishing, canoeing and spectacular views of the Credit River and tall ravines. The park is inviting to bird watchers, photographers and anyone at all who enjoys getting back to nature.

Another aspect of the park is the David J. Culham Trail, a pathway system through a heavily-forested area that provides spectacular views of the Credit River and trail ravines. The trail is particularly breathtaking in autumn, but has a special brand of peace and beauty that manifests itself throughout the year. This trail is perfect for hikers, joggers, cyclists and cross-country skiers. "

The above information was posted on the Mississauga Community pages. I have lived in Mississauga for 29 years and have just known this park to be a great place to bring my children (as they were growing up) for bike rides and walking the trails. The surrounding residential neighbourhoods are well known to all - Sherwood Forrest, Sawmill Valley, Sheridan Homelands, Erin Mills, and Erindale. These are the ones closest to the park. Beautiful yards and homes surround Erindale Park boasting to be a family friendly and featuring great schools.
It has been a long process, but I have started to see the light at the end of the LONG tunnel. I sat back the other evening and read through the blogs that I was writing when I started. There was always changes happening. I learned a lot...both about technique to use while I work out and also the importance of the balance between workout and diet.

What have I learned? Fitness is not one-size-fits-all. Everybody has a different level and ability to accomplish some sort of exercise. Do what you like and what makes you laugh and smile while you are doing it. Don't let anyone shame your choices. I have never cared what the person beside is lifting/running etc. I changed because I developed a "lifestyle" change. You don't have to belong to a 'boutique' gym. It doesn't matter where you sweat as long as you put the work into it. We all feel better, and feel we accomplished more, when we finish a workout and sweat is glistening on our bodies. Well, I have learned that it's the intensity of the exercise that determines a good workout. Not everyone is an expert. There are many who think that they are fitness and nutrition experts. It's YOU who knows his/her body best. I found the most important part of fitness is to find a form of exercise that is sustainable for a long period of time and that I enjoy. You HAVE to have fun doing this.

I have watched many at Life Time Athletic achieve many changes in their fitness levels. I have decreased the number of days I go to the gym...under the advice of my Personal Trainer, I take one day off. I do enjoy a game of squash and have had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful people to join me on the courts.

He has helped me become a stronger person and will NOT allow me to think about failure at anything that I attempt. The first few times with a new exercise may not be perfect, but with his guidance I find that I conquer all that is put in front of me. This leads straight into my business, too.

A year ago, I added golf to my agenda. I found a wonderful coach who has reminded me why I enjoyed the game a few years ago and why it still frustrates me at the same time. Thank you, Matthew Kane, for that lovely smile and your kind encouragement. Matthew's calmness and kind words always help me relax. Amazing what you can accomplish when you hear a kind word and a gentle attitude.
I am humbled by those who have helped me along the way. Those include the Trainers at Life Time Athletic who have encouraged me not to give up and those couple of members who have done the same. Thank you to the Trainers that have made me laugh. Thank you in particular to one member, Jasveen, who has listened and supported me during those days and times when the process seemed to be getting to me. The only person who cares and is there with that shoulder that I need.

I continue to wish all of you luck with your journey. It certainly has not been as easy as everyone thinks it is. But, if I can persevere, so can you!!! DON'T GIVE UP!!!! No more excuses!!! If you truly want to change how you look and how you feel, then do something...anything. Don't take on more than you can as this can sabotage what you are trying to achieve...hire a Professional Trainer...this is what they do! It doesn't matter what other people think how you look, get past it!!! You will be smiling and enjoying yourself before you know it! I still try to blend into the woodwork and not stand out in the crowd. But this is MY choice. I still feel I look like an Oompa Loompa when I walk through the gym. But now I can say, "So what! At least I am here trying to make my lifestyle different".

This is just for something different. I am not just a Realtor!

I am so proud of each and every one of you. My progress did not happen near as quickly as it did for the rest of you. 2 1/2 years later, I am 'almost' at the part of my journey where I can finally smile. I get very frustrated when those around me complain on how fat/big a certain part of their body is. When it truly isn't. Is it that they just want the attention? Are they looking for compliments? Do you honestly feel that you are making me feel better? I do NOT comment and I try to avoid any sharing of anything that I have done. I am still uncomfortable wearing proper fitting clothes. Yes, I do like loose fitting but it is great to be able to go into a regular store and buy something and it actually fits. I have gone from a size 26 to a size 10...my BMI started at 36.6 and was last read at 25.4 - this was my proudest number.

I have been told that I have motivated a few to start their own journey. That is my proudest moment. These ladies are at the point in their lives where I was 2 1/2 years ago. From these ladies, I get positive reinforcement. They don't complain that they haven't lost. We support eachother. We laugh at the same things about ourselves without making ourselves uncomfortable to what is being said.

This is something that I had to get off my chest. Enjoy your journey. Each and every one of you have to do your own. Remember, I also have a mental journey and I need support just like you do.

Gosh, it seems like yesterday he was holding my hand and calling me "mommy". I remember him telling me that he would live with me forever...of course I knew that was not true. I packed his suitcase many times over the years, especially during the teen years.

Now, with University complete and working at a steady job for several years it is time to try it on his own. It was quite the process. He asked me, his mom the Relator, to give him a hand. He was surprised at how much time it took. I guess I was a little fussier than others to find him a place and where he lived...but I treat ALL my clients the same. He still thought he was more special.

I stayed in the background as much as possible when he was packing his 'things' up. I gave advice as I have done it a few times. I was there when he put the last of the stuff in the truck and I was there when he put the key in the door of his new condo. Am I proud? You betcha!!!!!

That was this past weekend. As I walked through his empty rooms today, I remember all the chats we had as I sat at the end of his bed or we sat on the floor

together to talk and laugh. So many memories.

I have been through this before as my daughter has moved to Calgary 4 years ago. No one saw the amount of tears that were shed then and the heartache that I felt and once again no one will see these tears and know that my heart aches. I survived that and I will be okay with this. Please give me time. Do I miss him, a big and resounding YES. He is much closer but it's not the same.

I remember the day I brought this beautiful child into the world and have watched him grow up to be a pretty nice young man. I am very proud of all his decisions in his life.

I can't wait to read the book that he's starting now and see where his life leads him. We, as parents, have to let them spread their wings and test what's out there. I'm here if he needs a landing page once in a while. Will I continue to voice my opinion? Of course.

For all those new parents, this is what you have to look forward to! It may seem very far away but time and days move a lot faster when you want your children to remain with you forever. We all love our children but we show our love by letting them go. I've done all I can! I've nagged all I can! I know he knows that I am always there to listen.

Until next time
The exercise has

not been difficult once I set a commitment. The healthy eating has also been pretty easy. I can now tell people that I really don't like pasta and sweets. I don't eat junk or processed food. Yes, there have been times when this was questioned. Well, there have been times when I was hungry and I didn't pack something to eat while I worked that I stopped and got a bag of salted peanuts or even a sandwich. Eating the inside of a sandwich when you drive is kind of tricky to manage so I end up eating the bread.

What has changed in my "Food" side of my changes:
I started eating much smarter. I have added more protein - including lean meats and fish (something I thought was not necessary and caused weight gain) I don't focus on calorie counting anymore but I try not to eat 'empty' calories. My carbs come from vegetables and my sugar comes from fresh fruit. Do I enjoy a treat once in a while? A resounding, YES!!! But it has become extremely limited as I don't want to consume empty calories that will contradict everything that I have done to get rid of them out of my diet. So when there is a blue moon, I may have a small treat! LOL Another BIG one for me was - it is not the number on the scales that matter. I most certainly have to thank a special someone who has gotten me out of that (he know who he is but does not want to be mentioned).

The positive thoughts are still a work in progress. We all have 'those' days when we are not happy or we are looking for someone just to let us vent. I try to be positive most days and it starts with a great morning workout. That gets all my happy endorphins working full speed. Monday is the day that sets the tone for the rest of the week. (Yes, I am quoting my Personal Trainer who reminds me of this often) If I start out great on Monday, the rest of the week is easy peezie. When I'm not my 'happy' self...I have learned of a strategy that works for me. I won't share it because you have to develop your own.

I will share what has become a habit about my exercise routine:
I do go to the gym 7 days a week. That is my choice. I have a set program that has been developed with the help of my Personal Trainer and his knowledge how to change things up has been extremely helpful. Here it is: elliptical machine, weight training, I play squash (and now I have added tennis thanks to a young lady that has got me playing this), and then my 10,000 steps every day. Do I do that many steps EVERY day? No, but on the average it's about 8,500. When I go to the gym I am there for, at least, an hour.

I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel! Yes, there it is. I do know that this will be the most difficult of all. Once the weight loss has been achieved, I will continue to tone and make sure that the life style that I have chosen is so inbred into my brain that there will be no more going back to the way it was.

I have learned that weight loss isn't all about dieting or exercise. It's the combination of both. I have
been told by a few people that I have met that I have influenced them into starting their own journey. Remember the first thing is just to start...but getting the advice from a Personal Trainer, a professional who will help you get to a healthy lifestyle. He/she will see improvements before you do!

Don't give up or be impatient with the process. This is not an overnight fix! Also, and most important, you have GOT TO WANT TO DO IT AND TO COMMIT!!! No one is going to do it for you. Don't compare yourself to anyone else around you.

I'm almost at the point where I am kind of proud of my accomplishments. I DID commit and followed (sometimes kicking and screaming and using unladylike words) instruction. I know I say it often...Thank you to my Personal Trainer. No, he didn't do the work but he has led the way. Just an aside - I still will not get my picture taken. Not yet!!

Again, this is just for something different. I'm not just a Realtor, but I do enjoy life outside my job.

Until next time...

As 2014 nears it's end, I am now thinking, "it's been a full year of training" at a gym. At the beginning of this year, I met with my Personal Trainer and we discussed our plan of action for this year. We didn't consider the whole year, but just six months at a time. It makes it much less ominous to take baby steps to get results. Well, I'm afraid I have disappointed my Trainer as he suggested where I should be by June, and here it is November and I am still no further along.

No, I am not blaming my Trainer. He's been nothing but kind and patient. The frustration lies with me. As patient as I am as a Realtor, I have little patience for myself. So, what do I do...I drive my body harder when I'm working out on my own to the point where it's not my mind that tells me to stop, but actually my body stops.

When I started a year and a half ago, the purpose of this process was to lose weight (like everyone else) and to get physically fit (like everyone else). I have learned much along the way. The biggest lesson was 'commitment'. I became motivated when I found the trainer that would help me. He has forced me to maintain a positive mindset over my plateaus (of which there have been many and this last one I haven't been able to get past yet). He adjusts my routines to keep me motivated and to build momentum. That was the key. Someone was there to make sure that I am motivated at every step of the way. I have stopped getting frazzeled over things that I cannot control. I have learned that it's not a matter of time "IF" I screw up, but when. I'm not perfect. I have never claimed to be. I have a lot of bad weeks (even more bad days). It's how I have overcome some of those 'bad' issues. I have a long way to go. It's all those years of trying to be perfect and not succeeding that I have to overcome. The idea is to not give up. Understand that we will stumble, to get up...dust yourself off and focus on what we did right and continue on.

I remember the first day I walked through those doors at Life Time Athletic in Mississauga and was faced with a facility that truly believes in physical fitness for the WHOLE family. I know the look on the faces of those who are lost in the weight training areas and then moving around the club and watching what others are doing (some know what they're doing; others are just winging it). It's the look of fear because they don't know who to ask, what questions to ask, and then at the same time wondering if anyone else is feeling the same. My biggest hurdle was mental, not so much physical. Yes, there are "watchers" in this gym too. Those who want to watch and learn while training is being done to someone and not sign up to learn and get a lesson on their own. It is their loss because there is nothing like getting a few lessons to make sure that you are not going to hurt yourself.

I used every excuse: I felt I needed to get into shape before I started with a Personal Trainer because I didn't want to be judged; I had failed in the past and why was this going to be any different; I didn't enjoy working out; I might as well do it on my own. All of these were EXCUSES. I found out you have to connect with the trainer that you can get along with. Not one that will let you get away with nonsense. If you start out with someone and you don't get some results that you are looking for, for heavens sakes...change trainers. There are plenty to go around. It took me a while before I found one on my own. I assessed him for months to see how he worked, watched his attitude, and what kind of results was he getting. I was too new at the gym to ask anyone because we were all new and we didn't know any better.

My biggest lesson - I can't do it on my own. I needed someone to teach me the proper techniques for the machines and the weights. Also, there are plenty of machines that are there to fill space to make things easy. If it's really that easy, why do you not see trainers using them with their clients? Makes you think.

Since the last time I shared my journey, there hasn't been much change except to my attitude. I stopped 'discussing/negotiating' what exercise I will, or will not, try. Well, not so much anyway! There are still exercises that I, stubbornly, will not do. My Trainer has been professional enough and has worked with me long enough to know when not to push me. He doesn't give up and he doesn't let me give up either. I would like to add to the administrative staff at Life Time Athletic in Mississauga...you are very fortunate to have a Personal Trainer such as Alwin Mascoll on your staff and I feel privileged to have found someone that truly does care on the success of each and every one of his clients.

Where do I go from here? Well, I think I just keep working at what I'm doing trying to perfect what I set out to do on Day 1 a year and a half ago. I think it will be time for a pow-wow with my Personal Trainer, Alwin (I think I've known him long enough and you have probably heard me speak of him often) to get his thoughts (possibly in the New Year to start the year out fresh). We discuss a lot of things while I'm training and he is constantly throwing something new into the mix so that I don't get into a rut.

If you see me at Life Time Athletics, feel free to say "Hi"! If I'm working out, I will apologize in advance for not stopping. I will nod and give you a smile. You will have to be patient and wait until I'm done what I'm doing. I would love to hear your story and how you are doing. I have seen a few that have started working with a trainer and I have noticed some fantastic results. Keep up the good work. It's so great to see success. Thank you to those Trainers who actually do care about their clients.

Again, this is just for something different. I'm not just a Realtor, but I do enjoy life outside my job.

Until next time...

I am late,
again, in reporting on my journey towards Physical Fitness. I haven’t been writing about it, but I have
continued to go to the gym 5 days a week and STILL working out as best as I
can. Some days have been more difficult
than others, but a little push and support from many of my friends, I get to
the gym. That’s a big step. Once you’re there, well, you might as well
work out. Right? At least that's what I tell myself!

I can’t
believe that it’s been a year already!
That’s a year of working out with my Personal Trainer. Actually, it was a year at the beginning of
June. What changes have I noticed? Well, there’s a whole list. First though, I would like to thank Alwin for
sticking with me and helping me to keep going.
Has it been easy? By no
means. Has it been worth it? Absolutely.
There’s still a ways to go. There
has been some ‘sailor’ type language, some tears, and a lot of frustration on
my part. I guess the frustration is that
at times I feel that I have disappointed my Trainer, and myself a little
bit. Alwin is very supportive and tries
to push the boundaries but my stubborn streak in me has prevailed. I have even managed to get Alwin angry a
couple of times. YUP!!! The young man that has been nothing but kind
I have managed to frustrate. (Alwin, I
truly am sorry for those days).

I have
learned what exercises do the most good for me and which are just a fad. I have a lot of fun most days, and I truly
enjoy working out. I think that this is
extremely important. If you can’t have a
little bit of fun and enjoy it, you won’t stay with the workout. For me, routine is very important. I can give myself an hour early enough in the
morning where it doesn’t interrupt any work for my clients. I put in my ear plugs for my iPod and away I
go. Except on the days when I have a
trainer, then it’s thinking cap on…ears on alert….and I display as many
listening skills that I can muster up. I
continue to have a lot of questions.

I have
learned that free weights, or resistance training, is the routine that has
worked best for me. It challenges my
muscular endurance and builds tone, proper from, posture, and
coordination. Now, the next step, to
look a little leaner, I have to increase the weight (which I have done) to push
my muscles to failure under heavier loads (which I have also done).

How
important is this journey? Well, for
me…it’s no longer tedious, but it has become a way of life. There have been a few times that I don’t last
an hour, but even getting there for 45 minutes is still more than most of us
accomplish. I have allowed myself some
‘me’ time. That was huge. I still am not comfortable exposing myself
and my emotions but I am working on that.
I still shy away from compliments and feel like an oompa loompa many
days. I still shy away from a
camera and just want to blend in with my surroundings. Compliments are very difficult for me to accept. I am able to walk up the stairs
with clients without huffing and puffing.
I don’t get tired as quickly. I think my mental sharpness is much
better.

I will
continue to work at this, but I will not be posting on a regular basis. It will become a small note that I write
about when there is a significant change.
Yes, I have stalled, or reached a plateau as some may say, and am trying
to find something that will trigger the next progression.

I'm still here, although I am a little tardy in my post this month. My journey is still not over and I continue to work out at the gym. Still 5 days a week and still kind of having a little bit of fun. Things change. In my last post I wrote that I had lost a wee bit of weight, well I had...and now I have hit a 'plateau' and I'm getting a little frustrated with this. We all go through it. We do well, and then when we hit the pause button we either stop doing what we're doing or we go head-first through the wall. Well, I'm going head-first. I haven't broken through, YET!!!

Much has been said and written about this exercise and weight loss programs and the challenges that they present. It takes commitment. I guess you have to be a little mentally prepared and have a plan to be successful. Reading what I just wrote, I realize that applies to everything in my life. I have been known to those around me that I am persistent at completing tasks. It shows when I'm at the gym.

When I first started my goals were different than they are now, but my priority was to lose weight. Well, I've accomplished some of that but I have quite a ways to go. I also have been told that I am very hard on myself. If not me, then who will be? I'm not hard on myself I am just a wee bit stubborn and have this desire to do better. I give myself a month to achieve a certain goal, and if it is not met...well, a little devil on my shoulder starts to laugh and frustration comes out. BUT I DO NOT QUIT.

Sometimes I establish a new goal - lift a little more weight, last a little longer on the elliptical, increase speed and resistance on the elliptical, play some basketball (against myself) -- all of these are changes that I make on my own.

I still do a regimented routine at the gym that I do not like. I do it because it has provided the results that I want. BUT, at the same time, I try to do exercises that I really enjoy and it helps keep the daily habit of going to the gym. Also, having a Personal Trainer who keeps coming up with surprises is helpful. There are also many friends and supporters that I have that get me through those days where I truly would rather just throw my hands in the air and ask myself - "why am I doing this if it's not working". These are the people that get me off the chair and into the gym to begin my day. Yes, I may appear to be strong (and I have also been told that I appear to be a little bull headed) but I do need encouragement and motivation. I do not need pity or over-embellishment on my progress.

More and more I have increased my natural movement - moving my body without the constraints of machines. Machines 'could' limit our performance potential. I find that I get more out of a workout using free weights - bending, twisting, reaching, pulling and pressing - and trying to keep my balance in check by staying upright. I have fallen. But, with my Trainer spotting me, he at the very least catches the weights so I don't get hurt.

Do you remember your gym teacher telling you: "No Pain; No Gain" or "Go Hard or Go Home". I have learned that this type of mentality increases physical strain and potential injury. My Personal Trainer keeps a record of what I do at every single workout. He makes sure that I do better today than I did the last week on that same routine. He has taught me proper technique to prevent injury. By the end of every workout with him, he is judging to see that I am moving better than at the beginning.

Am I more energized? Yes. Do I have a ways to go? A resounding YES!!!! My energy levels have definitely increased. My stubborn streak has not decreased (ask Alwin Mascoll my Personal Trainer). The additional and new exercises that he has surprised me with has frustrated me to some extent, but then I get over it.

If you see me at Life Time Athletics in Mississauga, feel free to say 'hello'. If I'm working out, then you will get a nod and perhaps a smile. You will have to wait to chat after I'm done.

I continue to wish all of you luck with your voyage. It's certainly not as easy as everyone thinks it is. But if I can persevere, so can you. Don't give up! I haven't!

This is just for something different - I am not 'just' a Realtor. I am a much happier Realtor.

Until next month at which time it will be a year with my Personal Trainer. Let's see what those results will be after a year.
One third of 2014 is now in the books. The workouts continue. I have increased what I do and yet, there are those days when I feel that I haven't accomplished very much. BUT, I have. It will be a year, very soon, when I signed up with a Personal Trainer to get proper instruction and some advice as to why my trips to the Gym were not working. Well, I finally admitted to myself that I have lost a little bit of weight and my stamina for my daily jaunts have certainly increased.

As for many of you, getting up and off the couch/chair becomes difficult as we have busy lives to deal with and when that R&R hour arrives, all we want to do is rest. Let me tell you, once you get to the gym and complete some sort of workout, you feel MUCH better.

If you have the opportunity to talk to a few people at the gym and ask them who provides their information to them on their fitness routine, you'll probably get different looks because they probably won't understand what you're talking about or the responses will be varied. Most will be doing what they see others working on, and especially if this person is with a Personal Trainer. Surely, the Trainer will give them the advice that is required. Some are working on the exercises prescribed in a magazine: 'LOSE THOSE INCHES IN A MONTH AND GET READY FOR SUMMER'. I love that one. Then there are those like me, get a Personal Trainer. These guys honestly know what they are doing. BUT, if you find that the one you choose is not to your liking, CHANGE TRAINERS. In the end, you will find that efficiency and commitment is the advice that works the best. If you only go when you 'feel' like it, it's not going to work. No one wants to spin his/her wheels at the gym - WE WANT TO SEE RESULTS! Having said all that, not all routines will get you the results you are craving.

I have looked back at when I started at the gym to where I am now, and have noticed that different fitness machines and routines affect me. I cannot, and DO NOT, compare myself to anyone around me - not even hubby, son, or daughter - because what will work for me won't work for them. I don't care how MUCH weight they can lift, I don't care how long they can run on the treadmill, or how long they last punching a punching bag or their trainer. I have been taught to concentrate on the proper technique and to use equipment that keeps me coming back to the gym. There are machines in the gym that I never thought I would be using. My Personal Trainer has shown me otherwise.

I'm not training for a marathon but my objective is to able to run up and down the stairs as I show homes to my Buyers and not be out of breath at the end of the work day. Have I accomplished that? Yes, to some extent. I am very committed to going to the gym 5 days a week. It does not interfere with my schedule. I go early enough in the morning when most of you are just waking up. I am a morning person and have found that it works best for me. Being in Real Estate, I never know what I'll be doing that afternoon/evening.

It's not just working out at the gym, but now that most of us have come out of hibernation we are starting get outside and take a walk and talk to our neighbours or we just go for a walk along the waterfront. If you are fortunate to own a home with some sort of backyard/patio/balcony - you might start to get into gardening. Remember - exercise is just a stimulus on the body. It triggers a change, in co-ordination, aerobic capacity, strength or speed. This occurs between your workouts.

Within myself, I have learned that you don't have to hurt to have a great workout. Also, you don't have to sweat. There are so many workouts that have produced great results with little sweat but do get my heart rate up and then the recovery time is much shorter than it used to be. To push yourself to the extent where you strain yourself is just looking for injury.

I judge a great workout by how I feel after I am finished and how much better I do from one workout to the next. A month ago, I couldn't do what I am doing this week! I feel much more energized at the end of each workout. Yes, there are those days....but I have learned to get over them. I also have the privilege of having a wonderful Personal Trainer and friends that support and encourage me on those days. And yes, my Trainer will get me moving even if I don't have a session with him that day. He says he's always watching...sometimes I wonder but I'm sure that he is.

Next time you see me at Life Time Gym, you should come and say hello. Remember, I'm there to work out so if I tend to ignore you, I apologize. I still have the tiny stubborn streak in me that will never go away. I will always chat for a few minutes while I'm on the floor, and you would like to sit in the Café after, I would be more than happy to buy you a beverage.

I am wishing you luck and success in this voyage. It's not easy. But then again, anything that is worth it is not easy. If I can persevere, so can you! Just don't give up if you don't get immediate results.

This is just for something different - I am not 'just' a Realtor. Now, I am a much happier Realtor.
With 2 months into the New Year of 2014, I haven't quit my journey towards good health! How many times have you heard, "Strong is the new skinny"? Do you really care? Do you care more about being 'skinny' than about being 'strong'? If you're getting strong, you are getting leaner and more fit - healthier. The mind is a beautiful thing...if you're getting leaner it says, "Hey, Betty, you're getting thinner and you look a little younger". And I do laugh at this because I haven't noticed much of a change, yet!

I have never liked the compliments that I get, when mentioning that I am looking thinner. (These coming from those at the gym) I don't care. In my mind, I know how I look and depending on who says it, I take it with a grain of salt. I am one who is very hard on myself. The people that I care about and those who have taken a piece of my heart are the ones that do not notice changes (or are smart enough not to say anything because they have seen my reaction). And I believe that's because they didn't notice, or didn't comment on, when my body image started to change a good 8 years ago. So if they don't notice....(and I'm not going to finish the sentence)

I have been on diets all my life and then I joined a gym. If you have read my last 2 Blogs, then you will know that I worked at 'getting fit' on my own for a while. I was not one who enjoyed Strength and ResistanceTraining. I am now doing more of this and have noticed that, yes, my muscles ache after ALMOST each session. My daughter is the one that mentioned to me: Mom, if you're not sweating just a little bit or if you do not feel that you are working out, then you MUST increase the weights. My Trainer is a believer somewhat in what she says. He is adamant that your form and technique are #1 in achieving the most notable changes in health benefits. He chooses my weights that work for me. He makes me lift heavy enough to put forth that same effort on successive days. Yup, there are days where I am a little sore and then I cannot match that same weight on another day.

Studies have shown that once you achieve decent nutritional habits, then the next item on your list should not be to jump on the treadmill for long sessions, but to pick up the barbell. Remember one thing...if you are going to work strength training then make sure you get a good Personal Trainer, one who knows what he/she is doing, before you injure yourself and all that work that you put in is for naught.

Dieting will reduce that number on the scales, but if you are looking to have a leaner, muscular look...then Strength training is a must.

I have been very fortunate to have a Personal Trainer that actually is passionate about what he does. And, he actually knows what's going on. I know I frustrate him at times and I will 'negotiate', or at least try to, to lessen the workout. My famous sentence, 'FIND ME SOMETHING ELSE TO DO"! But, after these months of working together he has learned not to let me get away with too much. The fluttering of the eye lashes and the complaint that I am 'too old to do this' is not working any more.

Maybe next time you see me, you may think that my image has changed. Please, don't say anything to me about how I look. I just walk away because I have a lot farther to go before I will allow myself to accept the compliment. If you see me at Life Time Gym at Hwy 403 and Winston Churchill, and you recognize me, come on over and say hello. I can introduce you to my Personal Trainer, Alwin Mascoll. Perhaps you will even consider taking a few Training Sessions with him. Your decision!
We have endured an extremely cold month of January and, for a lot of us, our resolutions for the New Year are now a distant memory. We tend to forget what we strive for when we open a new door in our lives.

My journey through physical training continues. I was reading another story this morning about an elderly, perhaps the correct word would be 'mature', gentleman in his own journey. He hasn't quit! Why have you?

I know there are days when I drag myself to the gym and watch all these young things having a social morning and I arrive in my baggy t-shirt ready to try to get my muscles to wake the rest of my body up. After my warm-up the heart is pumping and blood starts to flow. On those days when I do free weights, my mind fights my body in achieving what I feel it should be able to do. Body Wins!!!

Most days I leave the gym feeling better than when I walk in, but there are those other days. When I leave the gym on a good day, I'm ready to tackle anything my clients/customers throw at me. Remember, I am not a body builder nor do I have time (or the patience) to spend hours at the gym. I go in...get my work out under my belt...and get out there to continue my day.

After about half a year with a Personal Trainer (you have heard me talk of him often - Alwin Mascoll at Life Time Gym), I have noticed that I walk taller, I have more energy than I have had in a very long time. I'm not looking for compliments on how I look. I KNOW the changes that are taking place. I am able to concentrate without any effort and those stairs that I climb to show homes to clients, have become less of a task. I am human (some may disagree). Given the chance, I will take the easy road to complete a workout.

I cannot stress on getting the professional help in getting this done. As it says in the article: "If you have the self-motivation, you can do it on your own. But it's always advisable to have help at first so you're doing what's appropriate and doing it correctly."

There must be a few of you who are reading this that belong to Life Time in Mississauga at Hwy #403 and Winston Churchill! I'm there 5 mornings a week. If you see me, come on over and say hello. We have something in common - we are working out for our health and happiness.
Some of you may have been following my escapades at Life Time Gym for the past few months. I have been trying, and at times I feel succeeding, my journey to get into shape for the spring/summer of 2014. AND, it hasn't been easy.

When I first joined the gym, I thought I knew what I was doing so for a few months I tackled an exercise routine on my own. I was fortunate that the Gym provided support for new members with a Personal Trainer. Well, it so happens that this old broad was a little more stubborn that these young Trainers could handle. The first young lady -- very nice and polite as all begone -- just told me what she would have her mother do. Well, she was just too kind and I took advantage of this. After a couple of sessions with her I realized that I wasn't getting anywhere. So, found Personal Trainer number 2. This one was recommended to me by my hubby. I will insert something here - my hubby and I are polar opposites. He did fine, and once again, I had a Trainer that was uncomfortable in pushing me do something that he KNEW was good for me. And my subborn streak would show up and it was once again "NO". Before I got to really know this young man, he left the gym. (And, no, I don't think it was my fault)

Now, I continued my journey. Because I have been in the 'people' field for most of my life I decided that I was going to watch the Trainers that were already working with Clients. I felt that maybe I could find someone that would be a good fit for my personality. Now, that's not an easy task. One young man always stood out in the crowd. Not only is about 6 feet 5 inches tall, but built like a Mac Truck. I watched him closely, almost like I was stalking him, for about 2 months and then I decided that I had had enough of not producing results and approached Alwin (maybe I should call him Mr. Mascoll - ah, heck no) and requested an appointment. Well, the rest is history. I still have not achieved what I thought I would to this day, but I'm hoping that he has it in him to keep pushing me. As an addendum, I must say I have the utmost respect for this young man. He has put up with a lot of "stuff" from me. I congratulate him for lasting this long.

What brought this blog on? Well, I was reading in the paper this morning about becoming stronger physically and mentally, perhaps losing a few of those nasty pounds that have been creeping up in the past few years of my life. The Personal Trainers that have contributed to the article all started with a cardio workout. Yes, I do cardio. I will NOT use the treadmill and therefore, Alwin has introduced me to an elyptical machine that I have learned to like. We started out, and remain, having sessions together twice a week but he has introduced me to core training. He is adamant that I use proper form. He is an athlete (semi-pro football) and therefore knows about this stuff. We have gone to weight training and are now introducing different exercises to wake some more of my muscles up. The article in the paper gives you a list of how to introduce yourself to exercise. After a few months of 'going it alone' they all recommend a Personal Trainer to make sure you're using proper form. Get one before you do damage to your body. This I have repeated to many...even my own family...hubby and son are both getting Training from Alwin. I cannot stress how important it is to have a professional trainer guide you towards your goals.

I go to the gym for sure 4 times a week (it's only an hour out of my day) and truly strive for that 5th day.

Those who know me, when next time you see me you may not recognize me. I have found I do have a lot more energy to get my work as a Realtor accomplished. I am not as stressed as I used to be, but I still have a little bit of a stubborn streak in me (ask my Trainer).

If you're ever around at Life Time Gym in the mornings, look for me and come up and say hello. I wish all of you luck in this voyage. It's not easy. But if I can persevere, so can you.

This is just for something different - I am not just a Realtor. But now, I'm a much happier Realtor.

As I do my travels through neighbourhoods in Mississauga, I have noticed that there are so many families just getting back from their summer vacations and now are starting to scramble to prepare their children to go back to school. It doesn't matter whether it's elementary school or post secondary, the excitement is starting to build.

I was at the gym and the parents are starting to bring in their youngins to give them something to do while they do their own workouts. Some don't even want to be up.

I'm being a little bit nostalgic these days because it has brought back so many memories when my children were at home with me. My son and I were 'sharing a moment' yesterday when he says to me: "Mom, do you know that it's been 10 years ago that I finished High School?" I looked at him and all of a sudden I saw this young man in front of me. When did he grow up? Those years have just flown by. You might know, I have also have a daughter. She is a couple years younger so it's only been 8 years for her.

I remember the days that both my children came into our lives. That was an ouch! (HAHAHA!!!! I don't want to scare anyone that is having their first). Both are now adults! When did this happen? Their doors have been opened for so many great things! They have gone through these doors, at times hesitantly, but when passed, the smiles spread from ear to ear. Pressures of school, peer pressures, occupational choices...they had to make their own. Of course, dad and mom were there to lend an ear or even a shoulder when necessary, but the decision was theirs to be made. A long time ago, we instilled in them that all decisions had consequences so make sure you make sound decisions. Of course they made mistakes...that's the only way to learn...but they were learned not to repeat the ones where they didn't like the consequence.

Now, they have moved on and are spreading their wings and flying. I sit back and wonder if I could have made it easier for them? No, I think if I had, they wouldn't be the fantastic young adults that they are. Was there any advice that I could have given them that they would appreciate? Probably not yet, but maybe one day they will remember the few little pieces of advice that I gave them. There is so much for them to get from Twitter, Facebook, and Google. My advice was from the heart.

For all of you that have children that are growing up, or are now going on to create their own niches in the world, give your kids a hug! Remind them that the tears that are shed when you say 'see you soon' are happy tears! This is their turn! You, as my husband and I, have helped provide the stepping stones.

Thank you for letting me do a little bit of nostalgic writing.
"We're having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave"

It's summer time in the city and we are melting AND it's okay! Unfortunately, we can't get out to enjoy it. We're all hiding in our air conditioned homes. Those of us fortunate to have a swimming pool in our backyards ARE out there enjoying the dog days of summer! Just putting your feet in cooling water is helpful.

If you live in Mississauga, you have probably heard that they are closing South Common Pool for sprucing up. It is one of the more popular public pools for swimming lessons, aquatic exercise, and recreational swimming. Now that it's not available to the general public until approximately mid-September all you have to do is go south on Erin Mills Parkway for the closest alternative and that's David Ramsay Outdoor Pool at 2470 Thornlodge Drive and it's only about a 5 minute drive away.

David Ramsay Pool has extended their "OPEN" hours to accommodate many, especially during this heat wave, they are open a little longer.

Get in there and use the facility. It has had a HUGE renovation completed 2 summers ago. You will enjoy the outdoors, no need to be indoors this time of year. You will hear the laughter of children AND adults alike. It's in a beautiful neighbourhood of Sheridan Homelands.

Get out there an learn to swim, get some exercise, or just enjoy the outdoors during this short summer season.
I guess the summer of 2013 will go down in record books. Being that Toronto survived a gruelling rain storm that caused havoc throughout the city and surrounding areas. The last blackout we had, we didn't have to deal with flooding. We just had no power. The residents of Etobicoke suffered a little longer than most (at least what I heard) as they were without power for about 2 days.

At this point, we have ALL looked over our Home Insurance Policies and, if needed, we called our carriers and had someone come out and look at the damage if there was any. We were very fortunate on my street in the Sheridan Homelands as no one had a flooded basement. I can't speak for anyone else, but I didn't see much damaged goods placed out to dry or to be picked up by trash the following day. We had power within four hours. Others were a little longer in Mississauga, and then there were those who were fortunate to have power back sooner.

We are being asked to help preserve power usage so that we don't have a blackout due to sudden surges of power once it has come back on. I imagine most, including myself, charged up all their phones, mobile devices, etc. as soon as the power comes on. Maybe it's time to think about to use our energy a little differently. Oh, and don't forget to start backing up the information on your computers!
A few years ago, I found myself very lucky in meeting 2 gentlemen...Chris Newell and Barry Lebow. At the time, they were both teaching the Accreditation Programme to agents who were looking to tap into the senior market. I have applied my knowledge many times because I do live in a neighbourhood where many seniors reside. You may wonder why I'm writing this! Well, I have a short story to share with you.

As the weather has turned nicer, there have been a few homes that have come on the market in the Sheridan Homelands neighbourhood. I was out previewing homes for buyers who are interested in trying to set their roots here. Because I have lived here for going on 30 years, I do have some knowledge of what's going on in the Real Estate Market.

I was previewing a home yesterday and this lovely little old lady was so confused as to what was happening and how busy her home was. She was smart as a whip, but the activity was just too much for that day. As I was finishing my peek-a-boo, she asked if I had a minute to chat with her. Of course I did! I wasn't looking to interfere with the Listing Agent, but I was lending an ear. She told me about the passing of her husband and her surgery a few months back. She told me where she was going to go from here. She told me about her family. She told me about her neighbours and how she was going to miss them. I was there far longer than necessary, but she just needed someone at that particular moment to keep her company. I told her that she had an excellent agent looking out for her, and that was the truth. because she was asking about what to do with her stuff. I told her to ask her agent because I am sure she will be able to help her.

This brought me back to what I have said on my videos and in other blog posts. It is a difficult time for someone who has lived in a home for MANY years to move. They have accumulated so many things, all of a sudden they have to get rid of it, sell it, donate it...whatever...and they're not ready to part with it. The house is on the market...it will sell quickly I'm sure...and then it depends on the closing date. She was getting nervous whether she could empty the place out on time and who would help her with the move. She was more worried about her garden because the landscaper she uses wasn't able to come and mow the lawn and finish planting flowers because of all the rain. What a sweetheart!

I got off track here...if you are reaching that age where the house you reside in is too big, perhaps it's time to sit down and chat about 'the move'. I have an aging parent myself, and I would truly love to see her move when she wants to and where she wants to move to, before this decision is made for her.

You may ask: "Why use an Accredited Senior Agent"? Well, we are trained in special skills and we have the dedication needed to work with the mature and senior client. We know the local retirement living options that are available and we can provide that information for you quite readily. If you have family members who are going to be involved, we can take the burden of this move off their shoulders. We do it all for you in the least stressful way that we can. Because we all know that moving is more stressful than it's made out to be. We are there to help you make the right choice...and it will be YOUR choice!

Too all who I have talked to, and to all that might consider making a move, feel free to give me a call directly at 416 427 1875. I do answer my phone. I will never use any pressure tactics but I will be there when you need a strong shoulder or just a listening ear. Let me know how I can help!

what type of plants you’d like at your home, map out, or stake out the area in
which your plants will be planted. Estimate enough room for pedestrians walking

Whether you have reached an age where owning a detached home with a large home is too much to handle or if you are a first-time home buyer, are you ready for condo life?

What's the biggest difference from freehold homes? You own your unit but you share ownership of the land, building, and common areas (areas used by all). You share your costs with member of your condo association, and the board of directors or a property management company who make the big decisions.

With so many condo popping up on the market right now, and so many new ones going up in Mississauga and Toronto, you have to decide whether this is the smart choice for you.

Let's look at the benefits of Condo Living:

1) Someone handles all the outside work. For example: snow shoveling, landscaping, outside repairs to the building. Your condo maintenance fees will cover all this.

2) Many major costs are shared. A portion of the condo fees will go to a 'Reserve Fund'. When a property is well managed this fund could cover window replacement, roofing - and this would be done without any cost to the owners. However, if it is poorly managed and falls short, a 'special assessment' will be done and the costs will be shared equally among owners.

3) Lifestyle. Condos allow you to own your space rather than rent. Some condo developments cater to specific groups - young professionals, families, or seniors.

4) Amenities. Would you get a theatre room, gym, or swimming pool in your average and affordable detached home?

5) Customization. Unlike renting, you are free to paint, renovate, etc.

6) Price. Depending on where you choose to live, this may the affordable way for you to own a home.

7) Location. If you are looking at prime real estate in a major city, a condo may be the practical solution. All your amenities are nearby.

8) Security. Some buildings offer 24 hour security or a doorman. You may feel safer with neighbours close by and you worry less if you travel frequently.

hear the word ‘retirement’, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? A frail person, with an oxygen tank attached
to them and living in a residence with constant care with nothing to do but to
watch birds fly and the sun come up and then set at the end of the day!

I’m very
happy to say that things have changed.
Now, instead of sitting back and watching grass grow, more of us want to
use the extra time, energy, and the extra cash that we have received from the
sale of our properties. We want to
travel, which is one of the things that is on everyone’s bucket list!

Today,
retirees want a home where they can travel from and entertain in. Health issues are still there but most of us
stay fit longer and have access to better medical care than, let’s say, our
parents.

Is there a
‘perfect’ Retirement Home? Probably
not. It becomes perfect when it meets
the requirements of aging and changing needs.

When you
decide to move to a smaller home or a retirement community, there are many advantages
– smaller homes translate to lower costs and less maintenance; and retirement
communities ensure your neighbours are of the same generation and have made the
same lifestyle decision as yourself.

Staying in
your current home is more economical if your mortgage is paid off. If you still have a mortgage, you’ll need to
figure out if your retirement income will be high enough for you to continue
the payments. You should evaluate
whether it meets your physical needs. If
it needs remodeling, do you really want to undertake these projects?

You have

Perhaps a
condominium or an apartment is your future.
The condo lifestyle has been a favorite by empty nesters for a long
time. They vary in size and price and
have all the facilities that you would want or need. Perhaps you would like a peace and quiet of
waterfront living or even living in the countryside. Condo life has advantages – short on
maintenance, long on amenities, offer more opportunity to socialize. They are much more affordable and a great way
to still own property and downsize at the same time.

How about a

if you need it. For example, when you
first move in you may not need care and supervision. But, as time passes, your needs change and
these communities have been set up to change with these needs for you.
