Erindale Park has been enjoyed by many since 1902.
"The land was flooded and a dam was built to generate hydro electric power. The dam was
subsequently demolished in 1954 and the site was remediated by Ontario Hydro. Following this remediation, the river bed was straightened, widened and relocated to its present location closer to the north-west valley bank. This provided a large flat area which was used as a sanitary landfill between the years of 1961 and 1965.
Erindale Park is the largest park in the City (222.1 acres or 89.88 hectares) and features 5 picnic facility areas, 5 barbecues, 6 comfort stations, 1 playground equipment area, a lookout on the old dam and a toboggan hill. This park also offers walking trails, fishing, canoeing and spectacular views of the Credit River and tall ravines. The park is inviting to bird watchers, photographers and anyone at all who enjoys getting back to nature.
Another aspect of the park is the David J. Culham Trail, a pathway system through a heavily-forested area that provides spectacular views of the Credit River and trail ravines. The trail is particularly breathtaking in autumn, but has a special brand of peace and beauty that manifests itself throughout the year. This trail is perfect for hikers, joggers, cyclists and cross-country skiers. "
The above information was posted on the Mississauga Community pages. I have lived in Mississauga for 29 years and have just known this park to be a great place to bring my children (as they were growing up) for bike rides and walking the trails. The surrounding residential neighbourhoods are well known to all - Sherwood Forrest, Sawmill Valley, Sheridan Homelands, Erin Mills, and Erindale. These are the ones closest to the park. Beautiful yards and homes surround Erindale Park boasting to be a family friendly and featuring great schools.
For further information regarding these neighbourhoods, feel free to connect with me at 416 427 1875 or email be at betty@bettybart.com and let's discuss your options.

Stepping Stone In My Journey
I have been looking at the transformation pictures of friends and ladies that want to share their journeys with me and reading all the great news about the amount of weight they have lost AND the changes in your bodies that they have noticed. I am so proud of each and every one of you. My progress did not happen near as quickly as it did for the rest of you. 2 1/2 years later, I am 'almost' at the part of my journey where I can finally smile. I get very frustrated when those around me complain on how fat/big a certain part of their body is. When it truly isn't. Is it that they just want the attention? Are they looking for compliments? Do you honestly feel that you are making me feel better? I do NOT comment and I try to avoid any sharing of anything that I have done. I am still uncomfortable wearing proper fitting clothes. Yes, I do like loose fitting but it is great to be able to go into a regular store and buy something and it actually fits. I have gone from a size 26 to a size 10...my BMI started at 36.6 and was last read at 25.4 - this was my proudest number.
I have been told that I have motivated a few to start their own journey. That is my proudest moment. These ladies are at the point in their lives where I was 2 1/2 years ago. From these ladies, I get positive reinforcement. They don't complain that they haven't lost. We support eachother. We laugh at the same things about ourselves without making ourselves uncomfortable to what is being said.
This is something that I had to get off my chest. Enjoy your journey. Each and every one of you have to do your own. Remember, I also have a mental journey and I need support just like you do.
Until next time

Two Years Into My Journey
Yes, folks...it's been 2 full years of exercise, healthy eating, and positive thoughts. The exercise has
not been difficult once I set a commitment. The healthy eating has also been pretty easy. I can now tell people that I really don't like pasta and sweets. I don't eat junk or processed food. Yes, there have been times when this was questioned. Well, there have been times when I was hungry and I didn't pack something to eat while I worked that I stopped and got a bag of salted peanuts or even a sandwich. Eating the inside of a sandwich when you drive is kind of tricky to manage so I end up eating the bread.
What has changed in my "Food" side of my changes:
I started eating much smarter. I have added more protein - including lean meats and fish (something I thought was not necessary and caused weight gain) I don't focus on calorie counting anymore but I try not to eat 'empty' calories. My carbs come from vegetables and my sugar comes from fresh fruit. Do I enjoy a treat once in a while? A resounding, YES!!! But it has become extremely limited as I don't want to consume empty calories that will contradict everything that I have done to get rid of them out of my diet. So when there is a blue moon, I may have a small treat! LOL Another BIG one for me was - it is not the number on the scales that matter. I most certainly have to thank a special someone who has gotten me out of that (he know who he is but does not want to be mentioned).
The positive thoughts are still a work in progress. We all have 'those' days when we are not happy or we are looking for someone just to let us vent. I try to be positive most days and it starts with a great morning workout. That gets all my happy endorphins working full speed. Monday is the day that sets the tone for the rest of the week. (Yes, I am quoting my Personal Trainer who reminds me of this often) If I start out great on Monday, the rest of the week is easy peezie. When I'm not my 'happy' self...I have learned of a strategy that works for me. I won't share it because you have to develop your own.
I will share what has become a habit about my exercise routine:
I do go to the gym 7 days a week. That is my choice. I have a set program that has been developed with the help of my Personal Trainer and his knowledge how to change things up has been extremely helpful. Here it is: elliptical machine, weight training, I play squash (and now I have added tennis thanks to a young lady that has got me playing this), and then my 10,000 steps every day. Do I do that many steps EVERY day? No, but on the average it's about 8,500. When I go to the gym I am there for, at least, an hour.
I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel! Yes, there it is. I do know that this will be the most difficult of all. Once the weight loss has been achieved, I will continue to tone and make sure that the life style that I have chosen is so inbred into my brain that there will be no more going back to the way it was.
I have learned that weight loss isn't all about dieting or exercise. It's the combination of both. I have
been told by a few people that I have met that I have influenced them into starting their own journey. Remember the first thing is just to start...but getting the advice from a Personal Trainer, a professional who will help you get to a healthy lifestyle. He/she will see improvements before you do!
Don't give up or be impatient with the process. This is not an overnight fix! Also, and most important, you have GOT TO WANT TO DO IT AND TO COMMIT!!! No one is going to do it for you. Don't compare yourself to anyone else around you.
I'm almost at the point where I am kind of proud of my accomplishments. I DID commit and followed (sometimes kicking and screaming and using unladylike words) instruction. I know I say it often...Thank you to my Personal Trainer. No, he didn't do the work but he has led the way. Just an aside - I still will not get my picture taken. Not yet!!
I continue to wish all of you luck with your journey. It certainly has not been as easy as everyone thinks it is. But, if I can persevere, so can you!!! DON'T GIVE UP!!!! No more excuses!!! If you truly want to change how you look and how you feel, then do something...anything. Don't take on more than you can as this can sabotage what you are trying to achieve...hire a Professional Trainer...this is what they do! It doesn't matter what other people think how you look, get past it!!! You will be smiling and enjoying yourself before you know it! I still try to blend into the woodwork and not stand out in the crowd. But this is MY choice.
Again, this is just for something different. I'm not just a Realtor, but I do enjoy life outside my job.
Until next time...

New Cell Phone Towers
Driving east across the QEW today, I notice a great big white cross just west of Mississauga Road and the QEW!! HMMM!!!! I thought, 'what a great cross for the small church that is located in South Mississauga. I was told that it was a new style of Cell Phone Tower. It was not as ornate as most are, but just a huge white one, very plain. It is one of the first ones put up about a month ago for better cell reception for the community.
There was quite the kerfuffle about it as most residents were disturbed about the health issues with this tower. It is also located amongst the huge hydro towers. Now, the residents don't seem to mind the hydro towers, but when it comes to this cell tower, they were disturbed. I was just wondering what the difference in health issues were between the two??
The Cell company is paying 'rent' to the church to put this on their land. It is not an ugly tower that you see all over the place.
Just to create some conversation ... what are the thoughts regarding this? I don't lean one way or the other. Homes have been selling, and selling well among the hydro towers. It's a beautiful neighbourhood. If you 'google' the health issues, you can make an informed decision as to whether you want to live there or not.
I certainly appreciate having better service on my cell phone.
My thoughts only!!!!

With each day showing signs of winter having set it, it certainly is time to start thinking about the holiday season. Families are starting to get together on weekends, either to bake or just to decorate the homes of loved ones and their own homes. Are you planning that winter get-away for some sunshine or going to the mountains to get in some skiing/boarding and well deserved rest?
The malls are starting to get busy! Now that Santa has come to town, the shoppers are attempting to get their shopping done. There is so much going on. RIDE is now in full operation, so let's make sure that we don't drink and drive. It's not worth it!!! I see so many smiles on faces.
I'm not going to pester you with real estate news. If you would like to read the Market Watch for the month of November, here it is. Read it online and save a couple of trees. Read it when you have a little bit of time, or just wait until the New Year. Keep yourslef informed about what's going on close to the end of yet another great year in Real Estate.
I would like to wish all of you the safest holiday season. Enjoy being with your families, loved ones, and friends. I would like to thank all who have enriched my life by just letting me inside their family circle, even for a short while, and allowed me to fulfill their dream of owning a new home. If I helped you sell your existing house, I certainly hope that you were satisfied with my services.
Happy Holidays to All
I look forward to being of further assistance to you and I hope that you consider introducing me to those who are considering making a real estate move in the coming year.
Have a Safe and Happy Holiday Season and wishing you health and happiness in the coming years.

Housing Market News
Well, here we go again. I had sent my monthly newsletter to my clients for the month of August stating that there was a hiccup in the financial market. Yes, there was and most of my clients, as probably everyone else's, locked their wallets and checkbooks up in a vault. Didn't throw away the key, but... Now, things were better last week and some have decided to get back into looking for and purchasing a home.
Great. What do I see in the paper this morning? "Eager Buyers Keep Housing Hot". Isn't that the truth? Yes, there are buyers out there but a hugely depleted inventory of homes for sale. Multiple offers...big time. I just went through this with a buyer. 8 offers on a link home in Mississauga. We went in with an extremely fair offer, but alas, we didn't get it. Disappointment for a while, but after discussing the pitfalls of overpaying, we are now on to the next one. Now, remember, there were 6 other buyers besides ourselves, that are in the hunt. Chances are I'm going to meet those agents on the street again as we wait for the response from the sellers about our offers.
Canadians still have a dream of owning a home. All the talk that the market was going to 'tank', isn't happening. Interest rates remain low and appear that they're going to stay low at least well into 2012.
Prediction is, that inventory levels may increase in the fall as the summer holiday season comes to an end and the kids go back to school, also, more baby boomers MAY look to cash in on their biggest asset at the market peak. If that happens, then the multiple offers may ease. Sales of homes that are priced well and show well with little left for the buyer to do will sell quickly.
My buyers right now are in a little bit of a panic as school boundary issues become important, travel to and from work becomes an issue, plus a gamut of other specifications that I deal with in order to get my buyers in the home of their dreams.
The EX is just around the corner. Buskerfests are happening. Southside Shuffle is coming back. Fall is just around the corner.
Get out there and enjoy the rest of this most perfect summer. There is so much going on, and a lot of it is free. If you have any questions, I haven't gone away so I am here to provide answers. Take a visit on my web site if you are leery of talking to an agent. Take a look at my YOU TUBE Videos and get to know me before we meet.
Remember, no pressure tactics...just persistence at getting this done.
Your decision is the decision I will respect.

July 2011 Market Watch Now Available

How scary has the Business News been the last couple of days. The US started quivering and this morning, Europe is now watching very closely what is happening in the US.
Of course, Canada depends on the US (as does the rest of the world market) and this morning all I'm hearing is how bad things 'could' become. Is there going to be a second recession? Who knows. But it is keeping us glued to our radios and the news today.
Now, the availability of the July 2011 Market Watch comes out today with good news. The market faired quite well in July. But is this something you would like to hear? If we could have announced this a few days ago it would have been better received. I would like to tell my clients...don't freeze...you can take a breath...but now, let's negotiate.
Read the Market Watch on line and save a tree!!! Just Click here Now wasn't that easy?

Are You New To Your Neighbourhood?

Here we are in the middle of July and we are all enjoying a wonderful start to the summer. If you were among the thousands who moved at the end of June/beginning of July, you are now probably just starting to make a small dent in all the boxes that came with you. At the same time, you're keeping your family busy and happy.
Moving can be a huge upheaval to a family. You are in new surroundings and trying to adapt to new social activities. Everyone always says, 'moving wasn't so bad'. Or a Realtor will tell you, 'let me make that move less stressful'. There is no way that anyone can make a move less stressful. Studies have shown that moving follows mourning and job loss in the order of stress levels. HHMMM!!!! This may make you reconsider to just stay where you are!!! Don't let it. If you're ready, you're ready and know that when you are in your new home, there is a light at the end of the tunnel that will make all of this forgotten until the next time. Does it get easier with every move? I don't think so. You are just more organized with each and every move and are more prepared with the glitches that pop up!
I remember moving my daughter the first time into her first home!!! Talk about stress!!! She really didn't think that there would be so much to do. Once she was in, and unpacked, we left her to her own devices. The second time was much easier.
There are a few ways to make moving a little easier on everyone. First, you must adapt to your new neighbourhood. If your realtor knew that neighbourhood, he/she would have already been able to provide you with information about where to shop, fun activities for the family, festival programs, sports and cultural facilities, and the list goes on. If not, then there is the Internet.
Once you have a few minutes, perhaps in the evening while the weather is warm and the days are longer, visit a commercial core somewhere. These areas abound with local neighbours and visitors sitting and enjoying cafes and restaurants and chatting with each other. What a great way to make friends!!! In Mississauga, take a look at Streetsville and Port Credit.
If you have children and were lucky enough to purchase a home with a pool, maybe have a pot luck housewarming party. What a great way for you and for your children to feel more at ease in their new surroundings and I'm sure your neighbours will appreciate this type of kindness. If not a pot luck, then supply cold beverages and snacks yourself. It doesn't have to be costly.
Start getting ready for the fall. Find out from your new neighbours the activities that are provided by the neighbourhood and sit and chat with your kids about what they would be interested in joining. Take your kids for a walk to the school that they will be attending so that they learn the route and comfortable with it. Also, by connecting with your neighbours, your kids will soon find friends with whom they will be walking to school.
As you can tell, when you move into a new neighbourhood, it is a good idea to stick around. Get your kids playing out at the front of the home so that your new neighbours can see you and feel comfortable in meeting your family. When I first moved into the Sheridan Homelands neighbourhood, one of my neighbours came over and said, 'if your kids don't play out front, no one will know that they are here'. We were fortunate to get a home with a pool and that's where we would spend our days. But, we did make time to play basketball, ride our bikes, roller blade, etc. out front.
If you have any questions about Lorne Park, Sheridan Homelands, Sherwood Forrest, Port Credit, Streetsville, Churchill Meadows -- in other words south Mississauga...I am around to answer any questions you may have. Feel free to call me directly at 416 427 1875. If you're thinking of selling at this time or are looking to purchase in these lovely neighbourhoods, give me a call.
Now, go out and enjoy.
